Welcome to Pickle & Boo, our brand new website for funky and vintage inspired gifts for babies and mummies. We opened for business in June 2007, and it's a hectic and exciting time to say the least!
By 'we' I mean myself and my husband James, and we run Pickle & Boo together. It's the ideal business for us, as it manages to successfully combine James' business brain with my not to be underestimated talent for shopping! We have hit that age when all of our friends are settling down and having babies, and as a mum to our two little boys myself too I have often found myself looking around for unique gifts and ideas that are a little different from the norm.
The seeds for Pickle & Boo were sown as I came across so many fabulous and funky baby gifts on international websites, and I often found myself frustrated at not being able to buy them here in the UK.
Pickle & Boo aims to remedy that, bringing together items of baby related gorgeousness from all around the globe, accompanied by some great baby and new mummy gift ideas from the best of British design. We have a wide range of baby clothing, hats and shoes in unusual silks and knits, and an ever expanding range of contemporary christening gifts and toys. We are especially pleased to be official stockists for Steiff, and we carry a lovely range of teds, rattles and music boxes in stock from their wonderful baby collection. Added to this, we have retro inspired baby blankets, baby skincare treats, funky bib and burp sets...all things baby!
We haven't forgotten about mummies either. Pregnancy is such an exciting time, and we have a special collection of products chosen especially to celebrate and pamper expectant and new mums. We have some amazing pregnancy journals from the states, indulgent skin care collections from pregnancy guru's Earth Mama Angel Baby, and a fabulous range of designer changing bags, all perfect for new mummy gifts. There is also an extra special collection of 'glitz and glamour' prezzies designed to bring a welcome touch of luxury - all star extra-girly decadent selections chosen purely to pamper. Wonderful as it is, we know that pregnancy and motherhood can sometimes be hard work too, and a well chosen, pretty and feminine new mummy gift can do wonders to boost a girls spirits.
All orders from Pickle & Boo will arrive deliciously ribboned and gift boxed - pregnancy or a new baby is just about the best reason we can think of to go really lavish with the wrapping! More about that on our packaging page.
Lastly, the answer to the question that we are asked most of all about the business - why on earth are we called Pickle & Boo? Well, we have two gorgeous little boys - Ed who's 3, and Alex who is just over 10 months. Boo has been Ed's nickname since he was a few weeks old, and Pickle is our pet name for Alex. So strictly speaking I guess we should have called ourselves Boo and Pickle, but Pickle and Boo has a much better ring to it doesn't it?
We are really proud of Pickle and Boo, and we hope you'll come back and visit the site regularly. I'll be updating the blog as often as I can with snippets of news about Pickle and Boo, details of new products we are expecting in soon, and the odd bit of family news and celebrity baby gossip for good measure!
